The Murchison Falls National Park started as a reserve in 1926 and now covers an area over 3800 square kilometers. The park is named after the Murchison falls that flows through the park separating it into two – The southern and northern banks.
This three day Uganda safari will give you enough time to see all that the great Murchison Falls national park has to offer – including a safari to spot four of the big 5 (You will see the fifth at the Ziwa Rhino sanctuary along the way to the park). Murchison Falls National Park was reserved for rulers and royals in its youth.
Over the years, this park has remained a beloved destination abundant with alluring wildlife and astonishing views for all to experience. The River Nile surges through a narrow gap at the tip of the Great Rift Valley, forming the falls for which the park is named. Only by witnessing the Nile’s most fierce and magical entrance will you truly understand why this National Park has drawn travellers from all over the globe for over a century. DAY 1 : Departure from Kampala to Murchison Falls
Rise early in the morning and prepare yourself to commence the journey at 6am. Following your breakfast, the Guide will arrive at your hotel, and together you will embark on the expedition towards Murchison Falls National Park.
On the route, you will traverse various towns, including Luwero, which holds significant historical significance due to its association with the guerrilla warfare waged by the current NRM government, ultimately resulting in the overthrow of Tito Okello's government.
Throughout the journey, you will have the opportunity to admire the captivating Ugandan countryside, where locals diligently tend to their gardens and farms. The Driver/Guide may make occasional stops, allowing you to indulge in purchasing or sampling delectable local fruits.
Before reaching Murchison Falls, you will pause in Masindi town for lunch, proceeding thereafter to conclude the final leg of the journey. As you enter the unpaved road leading to the park, you will start encountering some of the native creatures, such as baboons, antelopes, and perhaps even giraffes. This is merely a glimpse of what awaits you.
The Driver/Guide will continue driving until you reach the pinnacle of the falls, where the surroundings showcase awe-inspiring scenery. This experience will exemplify why Uganda is often referred to as the "Pearl of Africa."
Murchison Falls is created as the River Nile passes through a narrow gorge, descending with a resounding roar before continuing its tranquil journey to Egypt. It stands among the finest waterfalls in Africa, rivaling the majesty of Victoria Falls in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
After exploring the falls, you proceed directly to the 3-hour Launch cruise. The boat journey takes you downstream until it reaches the base of the falls, providing an opportunity for visitors to capture stunning photos of the magnificent Murchison Falls. The river Nile in this particular section is teeming with an incredible array of plants and animals. Get ready to witness elephants, birds, water bucks, crocodiles, the shoebill stork, and other fascinating creatures as they drink or bathe along the riverbanks. Once the cruise concludes, it's time to make your way back to your hotel. You can enjoy dinner and spend the night at Redchille Camp (Budget), Pakuba Safari Lodge (Mid-range), or Paara Safari Lodge (Luxury).

DAY 2 : Game Drive & Departure to Kampala
On the second day of your safari, you will have an early morning wake-up call at 6:00am to enjoy a hearty breakfast in preparation for the morning game drive. Feel free to indulge in as much coffee as you like and pack some snacks if you prefer. The Guide will be eagerly waiting for you to commence the exciting game drive.
If your hotel is located in the southern section of the park, you will be transported to the ferry that shuttles people to the northern section, which boasts a greater variety of wildlife. As you embark on the game drive, keep a keen eye out for animals that are still active from their early morning endeavors or those returning after a night of hunting.
Throughout the game drive, you can anticipate sightings of diverse wildlife, including hartebeests, giraffes, lions, hyenas, waterbucks, buffaloes, elephants, Uganda Kobs, warthogs, zebras, and primates. There is also a chance of spotting the elusive Sitatunga, leopards, bush pigs, oribi, reedbucks, and bush duikers.
After the exhilarating game drive, the journey back to Kampala will commence. However, along the way, there will be a stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.
Rhinos in Uganda faced extinction, and the sole place to observe them now is the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. In the sanctuary, you will have the opportunity to witness approximately 20 rhinos, accompanied by experienced rangers and trackers. These knowledgeable guides will provide insights into the rhinos, including their history of freely roaming Uganda's national parks until rampant poaching reduced their population to fewer than 6 individuals in the wild. Fortunately, their numbers are gradually increasing, and there is hope that they will be reintroduced to some of the national parks in the future.
Once you have had ample time to observe the rhinos, the journey back to Kampala will resume, with a stop in Masindi for lunch. Anticipate arriving in Kampala late in the evening. If you intend to depart on the same day, we recommend booking a flight scheduled for 10PM. If you prefer to depart the following day, we can assist you in securing a hotel in Entebbe, ensuring an early morning departure.
